YOUR CHECKLIST TO GET YOUR DAILY EXERCISE!

Presented by:

As the weather warms up, you may feel like being more active during the day. If you don’t know where to start, we are here to guide you and make your life easier!
If you want to increase the minutes you spend being active every day, here is a checklist of useful tips that is easy to follow.
But before we give you our tips, let’s first clarify the meaning of two terms: workout and physical activity.

🏋 What is a Workout?
A workout involves specific movements to achieve a specific goal, such as improving performance or getting healthier. A workout is done repeatedly and is often accompanied by a plan.
If you would like to get some pro tips on how to stay motivated to work out at the gym, check out the article “How to Find Time to Work Out!

🤸 What is a Physical Activity?
Physical activity is any movement of the human body. This means actions as simple as getting out of bed and going to the kitchen for coffee. The number of times a person goes to the gym per week does not necessarily make them an active person. What defines an active lifestyle is the totality of all the movements that take place during the day.

The following tips will help you increase your daily physical activity. To move more, you don’t necessarily need a gym bag or much preparation. You can simply make small changes in your habits that will make a difference in your overall health and energy!

✅ Here is YOUR Checklist for Being More Active Every Day:

🏠 WHEN YOU ARE AT HOME
✔ Instead of snoozing in the morning, take those 10 minutes to go for a walk or do some exercise. Our YouTube Channel can help you with this new lifestyle habit!
✔ When cleaning, emphasize your movements and do so to the sound of upbeat music. It will make you move a little faster!
✔ You like to dance? So do we! Play your favourite music and let yourself go! It’s just as good for your mind.
✔ Save money on gardening and snow removal services and get back to doing some chores yourself. Your body will thank you!
✔ Whenever you need to put things away, do it right away! Don’t pile them up to make only one trip.

🚗 WHEN YOU ARE ON THE MOVE
✔ If you take public transportation, get off one stop early and walk the rest of the way.
✔ If you are driving, park further away from your destination to increase your daily step count.
✔ If you are close to your destination, trade in the car for active transportation, such as walking or biking.
✔ If you can choose between the elevator and the steps, choose the steps. If there are too many floors, exit the elevator one or two floors down and finish the trip using the stairs.

💻 WHEN YOU ARE AT WORK
✔ If you work in an office, go see your colleagues at their desk instead of calling or writing to them.
✔ Take your calls while walking.
✔ Get a height adjustable desk and work in a standing position whenever you can. Plus, great under-desk treadmills are now available… for even more benefits!
✔ Take a few 5-minute breaks in your day to stretch and go for a walk. It will be good for your body as well as your head, and you will come back from these mini walks even more efficient!

🏃 DURING YOUR LEISURE TIME
✔ Instead of planning all your happy hours in bars or restaurants, organize bike rides or snowshoe hikes. You can also head to the park to play Spikeball. If it's winter, many parks have skating rinks accessible to all to stretch your paws a bit!
✔ Check your city’s websites to see what activities they offer. You will surely find a badminton league or a salsa class within walking distance that you can enjoy.
✔ Make sure you have easily accessible equipment to keep you moving around the house. Whether it’s a bicycle, a bean bag game, or a dart board, you are more likely to use it if you have it on hand.
✔ If you’re a Netflix junkie, then get moving while watching your favourite series. For example, to combine business with pleasure, fold your laundry while you’re watching TV.

If you wish to make positive changes to your health, you can – but you must want it! Keep in mind that you don’t have to make all these changes overnight or you may give up quickly. Make one small change at a time and do it over a long period of time, so that it becomes a habit. Then you can add another one.

But most importantly, give yourself time to succeed… You’ll see that after a while, your energy level will increase, which will automatically make you want to move even more! And for more ideas, check out the “Move” section of our blog!
