1. Standing calf stretch against the wall

This exercise specifically targets the gastrocnemius muscle, which is the most visible part of your calves. It is a simple and effective movement that uses the modern equipment in our gyms to release tension after walking or running on the treadmill.

  1. Stand facing a wall and place your hands against it at shoulder height.
  2. Step one leg back, keeping your heel firmly on the floor and your leg straight.
  3. Gently move your pelvis toward the wall by bending your front knee until you feel a stretch in your back calf.
  4. Breathe deeply and hold the position without pushing too hard, then switch sides.

2. Glute stretch on the floor

Ideal for relaxing the lower body after a weightlifting session, this stretch helps release tension built up in the glutes. Our modern machines and equipment are great, but sometimes a simple floor stretch is exactly what you need.

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor.
  2. Cross your right ankle over your left knee to form a "4" shape with your legs.
  3. Grasp the back of your left thigh with both hands and gently pull it toward your chest.
  4. Keep your shoulders relaxed and feel the stretch in your right glute before repeating the exercise on the other side.

3. Supported hamstring stretch

Your hamstrings are frequently used during your workouts, and stretching them helps maintain good flexibility in your daily life. By using a bench or a stable support, this exercise becomes accessible to everyone, regardless of your level of flexibility.

  1. Stand facing a bench or a stable step.
  2. Place your heel on the support, keeping your leg straight and your toes pointed toward the ceiling.
  3. Keep your back straight and gently lean your torso forward from your hips.
  4. As soon as you feel a stretch in the back of your thigh, hold the pose without rounding your back, then switch to the other leg.

4. Low lunge for the hip flexors

This exercise is ideal for loosening the front of the hips, an area often used during your indoor cycling or brisk walking sessions. It is a movement that feels great for releasing the tension built up in your daily life.

  1. Place one knee on the floor (you can use a mat for extra comfort) and bring your other foot forward, knee bent at 90 degrees.
  2. Keep your back straight and gently move your hips forward.
  3. You should feel a stretch along the front of the thigh of the leg with the knee on the floor.
  4. Breathe normally for about 30 to 45 seconds, then switch sides.

5. Deep calf stretch on a step

By using the edge of a step within our modern facilities, you can achieve a deeper stretch than on the floor. It is the perfect way to restore flexibility to your ankles after using our weight machines.

  1. Stand on the edge of a step with your heels hanging off.
  2. Lean on a railing or the wall to maintain your balance.
  3. Gently lower your heels below the level of the step.
  4. Hold the position as soon as you feel a pull behind your calves, without any sudden movements.

6. Butterfly stretch for the adductors

This stretch targets your inner thighs and helps relax the pelvis. It is an excellent way to finish your workout calmly before leaving the gym.

  1. Sit on the floor with your back straight and place the soles of your feet together in front of you.
  2. Let your knees drop naturally toward the sides.
  3. Hold your ankles and, if you feel comfortable, lean your upper body slightly forward.
  4. Take this moment to relax your shoulders and take deep breaths.

7. Standing quad stretch

An essential classic for stretching the front of your thigh. It’s a simple movement you can do anywhere in the gym before heading to the Zone Détente.

  1. Stand with your feet hip-width apart, leaning on one hand for balance if needed.
  2. Bend one knee and grab your foot or ankle behind you with the corresponding hand.
  3. Pull your heel toward your glute while keeping both knees well-aligned.
  4. Gently push your hips forward to maximize the effect, then switch legs.

FAQ about leg stretching exercises

What is the difference between static and dynamic stretching?

It’s important to choose your movements based on the timing of your session. Static stretching involves holding a still position to stretch the muscles located in a specific area, which is ideal for releasing muscle tension after physical effort. In contrast, dynamic stretching uses movement and flexion to warm up the body before you start moving. For your recovery, prioritize a calm approach that promotes overall muscular relaxation.

How do I know if I’m stretching correctly without getting injured?

Listening to your body is the key to preventing injuries. During leg stretches, you should feel a slight tension, but never sharp pain. The goal is to do it without pushing too hard, as your legs can naturally gain flexibility with consistency. By choosing the best stretches for legs adapted to your condition, you ensure that you end your workout on a positive and safe note.

How long after my workout should I stretch?

Ideally, you should start your stretching session immediately after your workout while your muscles are still warm. Taking about 5 to 10 minutes to relax can help reduce the feeling of stiffness and better manage muscle soreness in the following days. It is a simple moment, accessible to everyone, to transition into a well-deserved state of rest.
